Microsoft has announced some information about the future of Windows on embedded devices. Apparently the next version of embedded Windows will be called Windows Embedded Standard v.Next. Windows Embedded Compact 7 will be available until then. this appears to be a path towards merging Windows CE and Windows Desktop in Windows 8. This makes sense since Windows 8 will support ARM processors, so a version that can run on hand-held devices and tablets seems logical.

Everyone is talking about how Google is purchasing Motorola Mobility. This is the consumer-handset side of Motorola, not the Enterprise business that make portable data collectors and mobile computers. However, Android appears to be coming to the Data Collection market, so we won't be surprised if Android starts appearing on Enterprise devices soon.

Honeywell has announced that they are starting the first Developer Program for Android in the AIDC market. We've been expecting data collection manufacturers to start introducing Android-based devices, and this is the first public announcement we've seen about it. We are considering how we want to support Android in ITScriptNet, and we will let you know our plans as we go.

We have received a Unitech PA690 and a PA550 and we have tested them with ITScriptNet. Both devices work great with the existing Unitech Windows Mobile 5/6 client! We are adding them to the Program Designer as selectable devices, since their screen sizes are different from the standard 240x320 (portrait). The PA690 has a WVGA 640x800 (portrait) display, and the PA550 has a 320x240 (landscape) display.
